Over this last week the Rye Thunderbolts men’s basketball team played one game on Friday the 16th. The games scheduled for Saturday the 17th were postponed due to weather.
On the 16th Rye hosted the Lamar Savages. The Bolts opened up very close to the savages, being tied at 21 at the half. Rye then kicked it into second gear, outscoring them 27-17 in the second half. The final score was 48-38. This is Rye’s first win in the league. Senior Kevin Bailey led all scorers with 15 points. Rye’s leading scorer to this point, Bryson Benedict, dropped 14. Coach Kevin Maroney on the game said, “We played pretty well, we showed up with great defense. However we have areas to improve on. I am very happy with our first home win, we’re happy but not satisfied.”
