The massive wind storm that hit the valley on January 2 led to the busiest day in Rye Fire Protection District history according to Fire Chief Steve Bennett at the monthly RFPD Board of Directors meeting held Monday evening at the Colorado City Metro District building.
Bennett said that of the 75 calls in January, 25% of those occurred on the 2nd. Of the January calls 64 of them were of an emergency medical nature and 11 of them were fire related. That monthly total was up 40% over last January and up 34% over the five year January average.
The board also continued the discussion from a recent meeting in regard to changing legal council to a more local attorney. The board passed a measure authorizing the approval of the attorney change contingent on one final verification that there are no existing contractual obligations with the current attorney. It was determined that RFPD by-laws do not require a bid process on procurement of an attorney.
