The Rye Women’s Basketball Team’s season came to an end this week.

Rye had advanced into the 3A district tournaments with a very solid end to the season. Rye had to play against the number one team in Colorado Springs Christian on the 22nd. The Lions played suffocating defense, holding Rye to only 19 points for the entirety of the game. Coach Benedict said: “We had way too many turnovers to compete with a number one team like this. We knew they were very good and they showed it.” Following the loss, Rye was put in the consolation bracket, looking to salvage a trip to regionals.

Rye then looked to rebound in a match with the Trinidad Miners. Rye took Trinidad to overtime earlier in the season only to lose in the final seconds. The Bolts came in looking for redemption, but instead were overwhelmed by the Miners offensive attack. The Bolts lost the game 55-31. Coach Benedict said: “We didn’t play as a team, we had issues during the game with players. You can’t beat a quality team when you don’t play as a team.”
