As I sit here and write this, 2016 is in the rearview mirror. It was a year marked, in my opinion, with one reality…America desperately needs Jesus!

In 2017 God has me focusing on learning to pray effectual prayers. We all know what it is like to pray prayers that seem to fall on deaf ears or are seemingly ignored. I’m tired of praying those kind of prayers.

In his book “Moving Mountains” John Eldredge says “ there is a way things work!” That is true in everything, whether you are an electrician a doctor a Pastor or a Christ follower. We are all desirous of praying prayers that work and make a difference in our world.

In order for us to do this we must remember at least three things; 1. We must be engaged. E.M.Bounds said “The entire man must pray. The whole man- life, heart, temper, mind are in it….it takes a whole heart to do effectual praying.” 2. We must pray according to His will. (read 1 John 5:13-15) This takes asking what His will is and then listening for the gentle whisper of His voice .” The story is told of a little boy who would wait for his father to come home from work so that maybe he would play with him, but the father would come home and go straight into his office and close the door. The little boy would sit outside the door and push notes under it hoping his father would see the notes and respond, he never did. Is that the way you pray? As if you were pushing notes under a door hoping for a reply?

This leads to number 3. Remember who you are, you are not an orphan, you are a son or daughter of the Most High God and He loves you and wants an intimate relationship with you. Hebrews 4:16 says “ Let us approach God’s throne of Grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” God will not leave you sitting at the door.
