Our local Greenhorn Valley Awana Club, which is a Christian Bible learning Club for children ages four through fifth Grade, spent the month of February, their Mission Outreach month, learning as many Bible verses as they could as part of their Verse-a-Thon. For every verse they learned they had as many people as they could get to sponsor them, agreeing to pay 25 cents. The money raised through the Verse-a-Thon will go to the Greenhorn Valley’s Sister-Club in Kathmandu, Nepal. For every $10 the Club raises, one child in Nepal will be able to receive four years of Bible education covering Genesis to Revelations.
This year the Club set a goal of $320 in hopes of making it possible for 32 Nepalese children to join the Nepal Awana Club, matching the 32 children that are enrolled in the Greenhorn Valley Club. The Greenhorn Valley Club’s director, Mrs. Betty Gillespie, added incentive by offering to allow one of the Club’s assistants, Sandy Johnson, to cut off her hair, which she often wears in a bun, if the Club could bring in $1,000. Miss Betty was sure her bun was safe as this is an unbelievable amount for a Club this small.
