The Rye Women’s Soccer Team opened up their season this week with two tough matchups visiting tough teams.
On the 16th the Rye Thunderbolts visited the Elicott Thunderhawks to open up the 2017 campaign. In the first half of the game, both teams played defense and kept it scoreless. In the second half, the floodgates opened and the Bolts woke up on offense. The Bolts would win the game 3-0. Rye got two goals from freshman forward Ella Peters in her first regular season game at the high school level. Sophomore midfielder Jade Ray scored as well in a good win. Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Clayton along with strong defense shut down the Thunderhawk offense. A clean sheet was a great start to open up the year. “Our team did very well against them,” said Head Coach Kim Robles: “this was a new team to face for us and we broke out to win. I got to play all of my players, so that was great.”
Following the win, Rye visited the Vanguard Coursers on the 18th.
