Four board members in attendance at the regular meeting of the Rye Fire Protection District Board of Directors on Monday night gave unanimous approval to contact RFPD attorney Pat Garcia, from Peterson & Fonda PC, Pueblo, for the collection of emergency medical services. That company is currently EMA, of Pueblo West.
In a report issued at the meeting the EMS collection rate in 2017 is at 23%, an all time low. Board member Captain Jim Beach and Fire Chief Steve Bennett discussed an increasing number of coding errors and a decreasing lack of responsiveness as a reason to explore the possibility of hiring a different purveyor to manage the billing and collection of emergency medical service fees. The current collection for the year stands at $37,633.
