Since we purchased the newspaper on August 1, 2009, we have never submitted work or attended the annual Colorado Press Association Meeting. There were a myriad of reasons: the cost to attend, confusion when we initially acquired the paper about whether we were actually registered as a publication or not, a fear that the topics covered would apply to large papers and not the smaller ones, and just having enough time to attend.

It almost didnít happen this year. One day while working on the week's paper, Lori said there was an email from the Colorado Press Association stating this was the last day to enter work in the annual contest. We decided it was a good idea and began the scramble to look through all of the work produced in 52 issues in 2016, and get the appropriate work submitted. There are a zillion categories divided into ten classes based on circulation with a small fee for each entry. Lori did the majority of the work. We submitted writing by all of our writers, pictures by our photographers, and ran out of time with submitting layout and ad design, this year. We ended up submitting about 10-15 items. We also paid to attend Friday and Saturday of the three day event, hoping it was worth the time and the money.
