Coming into the game against Colorado Springs Christian, the Rye baseball team had lost three in a row and six of their last eight. Looking to end the skid in a cross league game against the Lions, Rye gave the ball to ace senior pitcher Brandon Johnson.

The Bolts jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, with a clutch two out RBI knock by Austin Gookin. Rye then scored two more in the second. Johnson was dealing on the mound, keeping the Lions off balance. In the top of the fourth, Johnson walked two and allowed a run in on a wild pitch. The Bolts then exploded for five in the bottom of the frame. Senior Bailey Benz came up with a clutch pinch-hit two RBI double. Kevin Bailey also hit a massive homerun to straightaway centerfield. Johnson would regain his dominating stuff, and the Bolts would win 11-1.
