From among as many as six applicants, Debra Decker has been selected as the new clerk for the Town of Rye, replacing Susanna Anderson who has served in the position for the past six years. Mayor Mickey Smith made the announcement at a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees on April 12, 2017.

Though a long-time resident of the Town of Rye, Decker was born in Oklahoma but raised in Grants, New Mexico. She graduated from Grants High School in 1969. After high school, Decker worked in retail before moving to the banking industry.

In 1977, Decker met and married Ed Decker who was employed in the uranium mining business. In 1980, the couple moved to Rye when the mining prospects faded. For a while, Decker worked at the Loaf N Jug in Colorado City, a position she says she thoroughly enjoyed.
