As you drive down Route 165, just after you pass the Credit Union, on the left you see a little country church which has its roots firmly imbedded in Rye’s history. The little Catholic Church of St. Aloysius Gonzaga had its beginning following World War II. Although ten years before the war, the church consisted of eight families who met at the home of one local family to worship and receive the Eucharist with their first pastor, Fr. Aloysius Miller. He was also the pastor and built St. Francis Xavier Parish in Pueblo.

The actual story began with three women and three men. The three women were Anna Decker, who is still very much alive and vigorous at 102 years old, Anna Scott, the aunt of Donna Dale and Mrs. Roley the mother of Carolyn Roley who are longtime residents of Rye. Initially they hitched up their buggies and later their cars to drive to a church in Pueblo each Sunday for mass.
