Nearly 200 nurses at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo will get pay raises of up to 26 percent after the Legislature Joint Budget Committee approved an emergency request for $2.8 million this year and $8.7 million next year to give raises to 187 registered nurses at the 449-bed hospital.

The Sangre Cristo Arts and Conference Center has asked Pueblo County Commissioners for an $800,000 funding boost in 2018 that includes increasing their annual allowance to $575,000 from the current $500,000 amount.

Jake LaMotta who brawled his way to the middleweight boxing title and was later memorialized by Robert DeNiro in the film “Raging Bull” has died. He was 95. LaMotta handed Sugar Ray Robinson his first defeat and reigned for nearly two years as champion during a time boxing was one of America’s biggest sports.
