On September 23 at about 1:30 p.m. Deputy Ely Dynes was dispatched to a location in Rye on the report of a fraud. The reporting party indicated he had a brush guard for a vehicle valued at $100 advertised for sale on Facebook for several months. On September 17 he received text messages from a male asking about the brush guard and informed him he would send a cashier’s check for more than the price and would the reporting party return the remainder of the check once he took the asking price of the brush guard and an extra $50 for cashing the check.

The reporting party said he received a UPS package from a person different than the caller person who inquired about the brush guard. The package contained a check for $2850. The reporting party immediately became suspicious and took the check to a bank. The bank said the check was fake and the reporting party called the Sheriff’s Department.

The check and package were taken by Deputy Dynes and entered into evidence. The original caller did not answer and a voice message was left to call the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.
