Greenhorn Valley News – October 9, 1997 50cents per copy - 12 pages Black and White

The top headline of the paper was “Mary Lou’s Café Is Closed.” The explanation read, “Closed for regular business on Tuesday, October 7, Mary Lou Gallegos decided not to reopen her doors to the hungry public on advice of her attorney. She said she felt ‘caught in the middle’ of legal litigation between the current owner and prospective buyer of the property where her café is located.”

A small group of interested parents and citizens met with Dr. Thomas Alby, School District 70 Superintendent, at 7 p.m. on October 6. The gathering was casual, and those attending were free to ask questions and point out areas on concern.

A motorcycle ride turned tragic early Sunday morning October 5, when 55 year-old Antonio Domenech from Mineral Springs, Texas had his left leg amputated. Domenech was headed westbound on Highway 165 around 1 a.m., when an unidentified car hit him head on.
