Lt. Dave Clements described Neighborhood Watch as being the cornerstone of crime prevention. It is the residents’ participation in this program that helps reduce burglaries and other neighborhood crimes. Clements described the program as basically being aware of what typically goes on in your area. He said, “You do not have to like your neighbor or even have them over for dinner. You just need to know who they are and how to get a hold of them should something out of the ordinary happens”.

Clements mentioned a couple incidents where his own neighbor called him and inquired about a yellow mustang in his driveway and found that his son had friends over when he wasn’t supposed to. In another incident they saw someone walking around his home and it resulted in being a family member. Fact is, his neighbor called him and alerted him. Another example was about one family coming home to a house that had been “cleaned out”, burglarized, and the neighbors saw a U-haul truck come and go, they just thought the family had moved.
