The date was August 9, 1974. I was living in the Washington DC area and had just completed reenlisting in the United States Marine Corps for another six years. Upon completion of that event, my family and I were driving home on I-395 S. and spotted a limousine motorcade headed north towards Washington. It was transporting Mr. Gerald R. Ford to be sworn in as the 38th President of the United States. In my mind, this was the termination of the Watergate episode that I followed with interest the diligent reporting and investigating performed over that 2.5 year period. It's unbelievable to see the difference in what we used to refer to as the 'free press' that was so effective in its objectivity to follow the story and report on the facts as they developed vs. the partisan and bias now practiced by that same so-called 'free press.'
