The Greenhorn Trail above Rye on Cuerna Verde Rd has been almost impassable after the flood in 2013 sent a wall of water, huge boulders and uprooted trees over the bridge and trail ,completely destroying the bridge.

Jeffer Wingate, Trails Project Manager, U.S. Forest Service, said, "It was a major ‘Blowout’, taking the bridge out when washing down boulders and debris from above the trail, making it completely impassable for horses and nearly so for hikers without lots of climbing over rock."

“We were able to secure a grant through the San Carlos Ranger District to rebuild a bridge and to work on restoring the trail with our mini excavator from the bridge, on up 1.8 miles of the Greenhorn Trail to where the Wilderness Area begins, where machinery is not allowed. Our new back up crew will be following behind the mini excavator touching up and reseeding to grow new vegetation for the Complete Trail Restoration Project," continued Wingate.
