With two trustees absent, the Rye Board of Trustees did not have a quorum at their regularly schedule meeting at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, held at town offices on Main Street. The town charter provides for six trustees and a mayor, all elected positions. Currently, there are four trustees and the mayor serving. With Mayor Mickey Smith and Trustees Marty Rahl and Sam Serracino present, the board was one trustee short of the number required to constitute a quorum, a situation that happens very infrequently, according to Smith. “Our folks are very dedicated. I can’t remember the last time we lacked a quorum for a regularly scheduled meeting,” said Smith.

By policy, the board can vote to pay existing bills but cannot act on other business matters. On a motion by Rahl, seconded by Serracino, the board voted to pay bills due before the board meets again.
