The Rye Wrestling Team attended the Pete and Ina Gomez Invitational Wrestling Tournament at Walsenburg last Saturday and came away with three medals and a 13th place finish in a surprisingly tough 27 team tournament.

Freshman Michael Atencio placed second in the 120-lb. weight class and lost his first match of the season to Ethan Andrade of Lamar in the finals 10-1. Prior to the finals Atencio logged three falls. Atencio is 10-1 for the season and according to Head Coach Dean Decker is done at the 120-lb. weight class where the coaching staff moved him to get some tough matches and will go back to the 113-lb. weight class for the duration of the season.

At 126 lbs. Colton Sims improved his record to 10-4 with a third-place finish. Sims won a 7-1 decision, scored a 22-6 technical fall, lost a 1-6 decision, won a 5-1 decision and won the third-place match with a 4-2 overtime win.
