The lead story focused on the Lake Beckwith Dam. Settling on the road that goes over the dam had been noticed in late 2011. At their regular meeting on January 10 the Colorado City Metro Board of Directors approved initial expenses to find out what was happening with the dam.
Estimates of the cost of the “fix” ranged between $100K and $2 million. It was estimated by District Manager David Valdez that it would take between six to seven months to identify the problem.
At the initial meeting of 2012 for the board members of District 70 there was a feeling of optimism in the air. A court ruled in favor of the Lobato et.all vs. The State of Colorado. The suit filed by 21 families and 21 school districts, which included District 70, sued the State of Colorado and required increased funding for education.
