On November 8, 2016, Colorado voters decided to increase the minimum wage every January until it was at $12/hr and after that adjust it based on the consumer price index. It will raise approximately 10% (90 cents) each year before the consumer price index years. The electorate voted over 55% in favor of the measure.

I had my say before the election. I pointed out that business never bears the cost of minimum wage increases, we all do. Business just raises the prices for as much of it as they can. I pointed out that in the end the government gets more tax money; and labor unions love it because they can raise their prices since 'entry level workers' make whatever the minimum wage goes to. I pointed out that small businesses will be forced to close (an estimated one in five) etc. etc. etc.

The electorate spoke and some of the 55% who voted for it when they had jobs probably donít now, but so it goes. Actions have consequences. But now I am mad.

WalMart stores, the largest retail employer in the United States, has announced that they are going to counter the minimum wage increase by putting in more self-checkout registers in their stores.
