On January 16, 2018, approximately 35 citizens attended the Pueblo West Neighborhood Watch meeting. They listened to Lieutenants Kindred and Black of the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office presentation on how the public can help prevent auto thefts and vehicle break-ins. They discussed Pueblo Police Department statistics which reported 1,253 vehicles were stolen in 2017, and 65% of those were recovered. The top stolen vehicle make was the Honda. It was also mentioned that the month of December 2017 several stolen vehicles were left running and unattended to, thus making it an easy target for criminals (regardless of Colorado Revised Statute 42-4-1206, more commonly known as the puffer law).

The Police are requesting the public’s assistance to help reduce the increasing number of auto thefts.

* Be cognizant of where you park and the opportunity it may provide to criminals.

* Do not leave your car running unattended (without an automatic starting system).

* Lock your doors and roll up your windows.
