The Rye High School wrestling team lost two wrestlers to concussions, one to a knee injury, one to a shoulder injury and two just up and quit this week but the six remaining Thunderbolts traveled to Center for the 2018 Valley Classic and came back with three medals and placed 11th out of 16 teams. Centauri won the tournament with 188.5 points and Rye scored 61.5 points.

Freshman Michael Atencio improved his record to 24-1 with another gold medal performance in the 113 lb. weight class. Atencio won a first period fall, a 16-0 technical fall, a second first period fall and in the championship, pinned his opponent in 1:47.

Teammate Colton Sims placed third in the 126 lb. class. Sims opened the tournament with a 9-1 major decision, a 7-0 decision, a lost fall, a win by forfeit, and a 14-10 decision in the third-place match. Sims is 21-8 for the season.
