The Rye High School Women’s team picked up their first win of the season last Thursday night when they downed the Denver School of Science and Technology on their home turf 36-24. The Thunderbolts led the Raptors 24-9 at halftime and never let up.
Madison Gookin led the team with eight points and had six rebounds. Gookin shot 30% from the field. Hannah Ambler also scored eight in the victory and hit 50% of her shots. Tess Zupancic grabbed eight rebounds. As a team the Thunderbolts shot 27% from the field, 32% from the line and had 14 turnovers. Six different players scored in the game.
The next night the Lady T’s traveled to Salida and fell to the home team 52-27. Gookin scored 14 points, had seven rebounds, and two assists. Chloe Richardson had six points and Jolee Ortiz had seven rebounds. Ortiz will miss some action this week because of an injury in the Denver game.
