The 42nd birthday banquet of the Rye Woman’s Club was the lead story on the front page. The event was held at Hollydot Golf Course on a Tuesday evening. The theme of the evening was “Hearts and Flowers.” The club President was Mrs. Charles LaVoo, Vice-President was Mrs. John Wilde, and Chaplain was Mrs. Lee Jones.

Thirty-four volunteer firefighters from Rye and Beulah put on a fire fighting demonstration at the Transportation Test Center northeast of Pueblo. Conducting the demonstration and tour was TTC Fire Chief Dwayne L. Murray. Members who participated from the Rye Fire Protection District included Chief Charles Terrill, Assistant Chief Charles Crawford, 1st Captain Ivan Dale, 2nd Captain Donald Owens, Assistant Chief Tom Holgerson, 1st Captain Gary Bates, 2nd Captain Ron Schaefer, and others.
