On February 7, 2018 approximately 75 people attended the Greenhorn Valley Neighborhood Watch meeting at the Greenhorn Valley Library. Among the attendees were representatives from the Rye Fire Department and Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Kirk Taylor, Captain Dawn Ballas, Lieutenant Cliff Kindred and Lisa Shorter, Manager of the Communication Department. Due to a call-out, Deputy Scheid wasn’t able to stay and present information regarding Wildland Fire Mitigation.

Sheriff Kirk Taylor discussed a few items, one of interest being the ‘shooting range’ that is located south of the Greenhorn Road. Unfortunately, people have abused the area, leaving trash all over the place, shell casings, items used as targets, people have gotten careless and are shooting in the direction of where people live, someone even shot Taylor’s dog. So now the Colorado City Metro District will be setting up signs for the area and the Sheriff’s Department will be enforcing Resolution No 10-2015 (Rules and Regulations to Prohibit Hunting and the Discharge of Firearms on District-owned Land).
