What do you do in northern Minnesota when there are subzero temperatures for weeks on end? According to Kelly Mattson, owner operator of Kelly J’s Sewing Center and Quilt Shop, you sew. The Duluth, Minnesota native brings her specialty shop to the True Value Shopping Center just in time for cold, February weather and is finding that sewing may be just the thing for Greenhorn Valley residents as well.

Mattson plans to offer sewing and quilting classes and retreats, in addition to quilt-shop quality fabric and unique supplies and notions. She brings 30 years of experience as a shop owner and educator in Duluth and is a Bernina sewing machine authorized dealer. Mattson can also service any make or model of machine.

She has met members of the local quilting guild, Scrappy Ladies, and has already been asked to teach classes at the guild meetings and at the local Greenhorn Valley Library. If you haven’t met her already, you probably will.

“I have enjoyed meeting so many people, and have fallen in love with the area. I will offer classes to those who just want to learn about sewing in general, beginning garment making, or home décor. The fabrics I carry can be used for an endless variety of things.”
