In the 2016-17 school year Rye High School graduated 89.4% of their students in four years. The average school in Colorado saw a graduation rate of 79 percent and that was the highest the rate had been since 2010. District 60, the City of Pueblo school district, matched the state rate at 79 percent. District 70, which Rye High School is part of, had an 84.5% graduation rate.

To show that kind of success at RHS, Michelle Mann, in her fourth year as RHS Principal, says it is complicated, but that it has to start with a partnership with the parents.

“This community really cares,” she shared. “Our parents buy-in to our belief that their student needs to be in school to graduate and to get as much as they can get from a high school education. We have a clearly stated attendance policy and we stick to it. Parents take it seriously and it leads to success at school.”

The policy has been so successful in fact, that Mann has only had to file truancy papers with the District Court one time in her tenure as the head of the high school.
