A crowd estimated at close to 200 persons gathered at Table Mountain Church, 6154 Boulder Avenue, Rye, at 6 PM on Friday, March 30, to remember the day Christ died for the atonement of mankind’s sins.

Jesus came to this world fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, and was crucified by the Romans on a hill called Golgotha (Calvary) outside Jerusalem, at the conclusion of his three-year earthly ministry. When a person was crucified, they were tied and nailed by the hands and feet to a cross or scaffold and left there to die. Christ’s love for all people and willingness to sacrifice Himself to restore the relationship between God and man are central tenets of the Christian faith.

The theme of the event, addressed by valley pastors and laypersons, was the seven last statements of Christ before he died on the cross: “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.”(Luke 23:34), “I say unto you, today, you will be with me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43), “Woman, behold thy son.” (John 19:26-27), “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:45-46), “It is finished.” (John 19:30) and “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit.” (Luke 23:44-49).
