I was looking through a Barnes and Noble last week and was drawn to the record albums. You know, record albums. Those are the things that turn in circles and you can hear music. They used to be all the rage. Then they disappeared. Now they are back.

As I was looking through the stacks of albums, I came upon one featuring an artist by the name of Josh Groban. To my knowledge I’ve never heard one of Mr. Groban’s songs. What caught my attention was a marketing blurb on the front side of the album cover that said – first time on vinyl.

If you are old, like me, you probably just smiled. “Vinyl” was the primary way you heard music until late in the 20th century. Some guy named Michael Jackson, in 1982, released an album called Thriller and sold somewhere between 47 million and 66 million copies. Jackson sold a total of 81 million albums during his career. That beat a 1980 album by a band named AC/DC that sold 26 million to 50 million of an album called Back in Black. The sales discrepancies are between “certified” sales and “claimed” sales.
