The Rye High School Track team had three meets last week in the busiest week of the season. Last Saturday the girl’s team placed 4th of 15 and the boy’s team placed 9th of 15 at the El Paso Small School Championships hosted by St. Mary’s.

The girl’s 4X800 meter relay team won it all with a time of 11:16.26. Faith Paquette, Jolee Ortiz, Emma Lesser and Makayla Rodriguez made up the team. Jolee Ortiz placed 2nd with a season best time in the 800-meter run. She finished in 2:37.74. Also placing second was the 4X400 meter relay team. Audrey Himmelburg, Hannah Ambler, Katie Richardson and Kylie Baudino ran the relay in a time of 4:40.59. Felicity Phillips also won a silver medal in the discus. The throw was 100’ exactly.

The boy’s team also collected three silver medals. Logan Kirkendall threw the discus 113’2” to win the runner-up spot. Jensen Brower also got a silver medal with a 40’8” toss in the shot put. The 4X400 meter relay team ran a time of 3:46.39 to place second. Ben Squier, Gabe Slade, Will Goos, and Colton Sims made up the team. Sims placed 3rd in the 1600-meter run finishing in a season best time of 5:02.54.
