The Rye High School Thunderbolt baseball team won an extra inning thriller in their initial post season game but then fell to the #2 seeded team in the state to end their season.

“We had 12 guys this year,” shared Head Coach Stacey Graham. “And with those 12 guys we made it to the ‘Sweet Sixteen’. Some of the teams we played had three complete teams and we had 12 guys. They played positions they had never played and did things they probably didn’t think they could do. I am proud of those guys.”

In the opening game at University Bulldog stadium in Greeley the Thunderbolts took a lead but surrendered it to Buena Vista at the end of the seventh inning, 8-8. No one scored in the 8th. In the top of the ninth Johnny Marquez hit a homerun for a 9-8 lead. Later in the inning with Jaxon Ortiz on first, Robert Buford laid down a bunt. A Buena Vista throwing error at third allowed Ortiz to make it all the way home with an insurance run.
