Two of the favorite things I cover are always within a few days of each other. I enjoy the Rye High School graduation and I enjoy covering the Memorial Day Service. This year was no exception.

There were less people at the graduation than normally. Sue Moore, the guest speaker, was really good. Perhaps it is because she has worked at the elementary school for a long time. With her working with children as a background I could understand her. No big words to show everyone how educated she is. She just told it like it was. She deserved the standing ovation at the end, not only for her speech but for the years of giving of herself to our children.

The relatives of the graduates are always entertaining. They run the entire gamut- from the refined and cultured to the, well, not as refined and not as cultured. The dress code runs from one extreme to the other. Some are decked in their Sunday go-to-meeting clothes, some in camo, some appear to be headed to the bar after graduation and some hadnít done laundry for awhile and had to wear whatever was clean, even if it didnít match.
