In a 7-2 ruling on Monday the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Colorado baker who refused to make a one of a kind, artistic, wedding cake for a gay couple because of his own religious beliefs which oppose same-sex marriage.
Justice Anthony Kennedy who wrote the majority opinion said that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission decision in 2014 that Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Lakewood, had discriminated by his refusal to create a custom wedding cake for fiancés Charlie Craig and David Mullins, did not get a fair shake. Kennedy said the commission was neither “tolerant nor respectful of his religious beliefs”.
Justice Kennedy can hardly be labeled a “homo-phoebe”. He was behind the landmark 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges decision that legalized same-sex marriage.

The issue was not about homosexuality. The issue was about religious freedom. Phillips has always served everyone, he just doesn’t participate in every event.
