In the story about the Memorial Day service in last week’s paper I identified Ivan Dale as the only Korean War veteran at the event. John Schaiberger of Max’s Place brought to my attention that John Aguilar was also attending with his wife, Esther, and daughter, Sara.

Aguilar was drafted during the Korean War into the Army after completing two years of college. The Raton, New Mexico native was an instructor for infantry and artillery soldiers at Fort Riley, in Junction City, Kansas.

After completing his tour of duty, he finished college and graduated from the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque. He served 17 years in the National Guard.

He and his family have lived in Colorado City for over 30 years.

“We consider it an honor and privilege to attend the Memorial Day services,” shared Esther.

My apology for missing a man who has served his country so faithfully.
