The Colorado State Patrol, Pueblo County SWAT, Pueblo Police Department and Rye Fire Protection District were involved in a situation Monday with a man who had been firing shots from his vehicles as he traveled on Interstate 25 between Colorado Springs and Exit 77 late Monday.

The man, Angelo Lerner,54, from Colorado Springs, was taken into custody after the Nissan SUV he was driving rolled over on Abbey Road when he tried to elude Colorado State Patrol officers. Pueblo County SWAT was called to the scene because of the presence of a firearm which turned out to be a Smith and Wesson Model 59.

The first call about Lerner came in at 5:20 p.m. when someone reported a male southbound on I-25 firing a gun out of his vehicle. The civilian continued to communicate with law enforcement as they followed Lerner, at some points in excess of 100 m.p.h. When CHP encountered him, he had pulled off Exit 77 and was stopped. When CHP tried to make contact, Lerner attempted to elude them and rolled his car on Abbey Road.
