Well over a hundred years ago Samuel Smith wrote a poem that was to become one of America's best loved songs:

My Country tis of Thee,

Sweet land of liberty,

Of thee I sing:

Land where my father's died,

Land of the pilgrims pride.

From every mountainside,

Let freedom ring!

As we ponder the rich heritage which is ours, celebrate the treasured freedom bought for us, and enjoy the

beautiful land which God has given us, we can truly say, "We live in a great country."

Though we live in a land of great freedom, there are many who do not enjoy personal freedom because God

has been left out of their lives and they have become slaves to sin and are in bondage not experiencing God's freedom.

When Jesus came, He said He came to set the captive free and to give abundant life here. Then He tells us of

a better and more beautiful country than this one. It is a land filled with endless joy and delight, where pain,

suffering, sorrow and sin cannot exist and one day it can be our permanent home. Jesus said:

"I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you unto

myself that where I am, there you may be also." (John 14:2,3)

Jesus not only tells us of heaven but He tells us how we can get there for He said, "I am the way, the truth and the

life; no man comes unto the Father, but by ME." (John 14:6)

Jesus Christ then is the way to eternal life in heaven. If we want to enjoy freedom from the bondage of sin here and be

prepared for heaven, we must "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and we shall be saved." Then we experience

freedom here and eternal life in heaven.
