After a hiatus of better than five years, Greenhorn Valley Baptist Church sponsored vacation bible school (VBS) for ages 3-12 years, daily, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM from June 25 through 29, 2018. The theme of the event, “Gear Ready, Gear Up, Game On!” averaged fifty students daily over the five-day event.

Said Director Jeanne Graber, “We were very excited about the number of students attending after such a long absence from presenting VBS in our community. What I found even more exciting was the number of staff and volunteers. The ratio was very nearly one staff/volunteer to each student.” Graber added, “I think that level of involvement says positive things about the direction our church body is heading,”

The direction to which Graber refers is both new and different for Greenhorn Valley Baptist Church. After seventeen years as pastor, Paul Clayton retired in July 2017. While the first inclination of a church, suddenly finding itself without a pastor, is to hire a new spiritual leader, Greenhorn Valley Baptist took a different route, one frequently recommended for a church whose retiring pastor has been in place for a long time, and called a transitional pastor, Dean Shepard.
