Second year Rye High School volleyball coach Jamie Donlon and her 25-lady squad have high hopes that the senior heavy team will be contenders in the Santa Fe 2A League.

With six of the eight varsity players returning from last year’s varsity Donlon is feeling good about the 6-2 offense they played last year. Returning to the varsity are Rachel Shaffer-outside hitter; Madison Gookin, middle hitter/blocker; Hannah Ambler, outside hitter; Jami Ortiz, setter/right side hitter; Ella Peters, setter/right side hitter; and Ashlyn Romine, Libero (defensive specialist).

New to the varsity are Brittany Miller, defensive specialist; and Courtney Proctor, middle hitter.

“The 6-2 allows us to use all the hitters on the court,” commented Donlon. “It let’s us maximize our offensive options. We moved Hannah (Ambler) to an outside hitter this year instead of middle hitter like last year and added Courtney Proctor to a middle hitter. We have some great hitters that have worked hard at placing the ball in different spots on the floor, reading the opponents defense and knowing when to hit with no mercy.”
