Obie’s Fillin’ Station and Max’s Place split the top award in the Western Days Chili Cookoff Competition held Saturday and Sunday at the River of Life Church. Max’s captured the award for the Best Cowboy Chili in the Greenhorn Valley and Obies took home the award for the Best Green Chili in the Greenhorn Valley. Both restaurants received plaques for their winning entries.

In the seventeen individual chili entries Nan Hassey won the Best Individual Cowboy Chili and Sabina Runnells grabbed the award for the best Individual Green Chili. John Hronich of Florissant won the People’s Choice Award. All three received $50 gift cards for their culinary skill.

The four restaurants that entered the contest provided two-gallons of chili each. Individual entrants each brought a gallon of their favorite chili recipe.
