In Pueblo County as of June 5, 2018 there were 111,792 registered voters. In Colorado there is no registration deadline so if you are not registered yet, you may register until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 6, 2018.

In the last Presidential Election (2016) almost 79,000 votes were cast in Pueblo County. In the last mid-term election (2014) that number was barely over 60,000 cast ballots. Apparently, since we weren’t voting for the President of the United States nearly 20,000 people decided it wasn’t worth their time to vote.

In July 2017, the population of Pueblo County was estimated nearing 170,000. About 23% of those were to young to vote, leaving about 131,000 possible voters. About 112,000 of those have registered for the election, leaving about 19,000 who haven’t registered. If 60,000 cast their ballots again this mid-term election, about 35% of the population of Pueblo County will decide the election for all of us. If the vote is very close on any issue, one person more than 17.5% of the entire population will make decisions for all of us.

Do you trust 17.5% of the people to elect the next Governor, Representative to the United States House of Representatives, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, Attorney General, more than a dozen amendments to the State Constitution and local issues and elections?

Elections matter.
