(This list is comprised of elections that have been decided by a margin of less than one vote in 1000( a margin of victory of less than 0.1%. According to a 2001 study of state and federal elections in the United States between 1898 and 1992, "one of every 100,000 votes cast in U.S. elections, and one of every 15,000 votes cast in state elections, "mattered" in the sense that they were cast for a candidate that officially tied or won by one vote.)

1988- Herbert L. Connolly lost to Robert B. Kennedy by one vote in the race for Governor. Connolly arrived at his precinct after the polls closed and wasn’t able to vote.

1971- Virginia House of Delegates- District 19- The initial vote count had Republican William Moss ahead of Democrat Jim Burch by one vote in what was then a six member district.
