Have people seemed a little fuzzy, more tired, inattentive and grumpy in the last few days? It may be related to the time shift as daylight saving time ended and we turned our clocks back one hour to return to Standard Time. Studies show that this disrupts the circadian rhythm of humans, and may last up to a week before the body adjusts.

Many sources credit Benjamin Franklin with being the first to suggest the seasonal time change in a letter to the editor of the Journal of Paris. In this 1784 essay, entitled "An Economical Project for Diminishing the Cost of Light", Franklin suggested candle usage could be conserved by getting people out of bed earlier in the morning. Some historians believe the essay was satirical, and meant to be nothing more than a joke poking fun at the more laid back approach to work taken by some.
