Voters Say No to Gas Restrictions, School Money, and Private Property Compensation

Proposition 112 which would have instituted new oil and gas setbacks were among a myriad of propositions that apparently went down to defeat in Pueblo County and statewide. As of 11 p.m. the proposal was losing with 32,829 votes against and 19,393 for in Pueblo County. Statewide 57% of the voters were against the proposal.

Also defeated handily was Amendment 73, a $1.6 billion measure to assist schools with additional funding. In Pueblo County that measure was down 34,136 against to 17,930 for. Statewide 55.5% voted against the amendment and 45.5% supported the amendment.

Amendment 74 with itís private property mandates was close in Pueblo County. Voting in the affirmative were 25,268, while 26,869 voted against. The 1.9 million votes statewide were not as close. The measure needed a 55% approval to pass. Instead, 54% voted against the measure and 46% voted for the measure.

Independent panels to redistrict voting areas and give independents a louder voice passed easily in Pueblo County and statewide. Amendmentís Y, and Z both easily passed the 55% approval they needed. Both had over 70% approval statewide. In Pueblo County the approval of both measures was over 65%. Combined over 72,000 ballots were cast in favor and less than 31,000 against.
