The Rye High School Math Day Team defeated Coronado High School in the final round to win the Math Day Championship for the second time in the 41-year history of the contest. The competition was held at CSU-Pueblo on November 15.

In the opening round the team, composed of Captain Gabe Slade, Emma Lesser and Parker Brown, faced Rocky Ford and had some early tournament jitters, escaping with a 90 to 60 victory. In the second round the Thunderbolts faced Pueblo East High School and won by a 130 to 90 score.

Centauri fell to the Thunderbolts in the semi-final contest by a score of 160-90, setting up a showdown with last years champion Coronado High School.

The finals featured defending champion Coronado High School. Faculty Sponsor and Coach Cole Mcgee knew what his team was up against. “I wasn’t sure they could overcome Coronado,” Mcgee stated. “But we dug deep and came out the champions.”

Rye won 170 to 140.
