The Rye Thunderbolt Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is preparing for their annual Santa Shop at Rye Elementary School. This long running annual tradition gives the students a chance to do their shopping, even keeping their gift a surprise from mom and dad by taking the gift home wrapped and ready for Christmas.

Organizer Jennifer Furney explained, “The students are taken to the shopping area, class by class, approximately five children at a time. The students have their money and are paired up with a volunteer to browse the available gift items. Once they have made their selections, they pay for them at the cashier, just like a real store. Then they are assisted with gift wrapping their selections.”

The Santa Shop will be open at Rye Elementary School on Monday, December 3 through Thursday, December 6. Shopping will start at 8:00 a.m., stop at noon for lunch and then resume until about 2:30 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist the children with shopping and to help with the gift wrapping. Volunteers can sign up at the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c084caeae2aa0f58-santa. This page will show what hours are available. Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, anyone who loves watching children have a good time are encouraged to volunteer. The PTO is also in need of donations of wrapping paper, gift bags, ribbons, etc. There is a drop off box in the foyer of the Rye Elementary School for such donations.
