Fifty to sixty people braved the cold waters of Lake Beckwith on Saturday, December 1 and Sunday, December 2 to remember the life of Maggie Drew Peters and raise money for other young people in the Colorado City-Rye community.

The Second Annual Polar Plunge was stretched into a two-day event to accommodate local wrestlers who were involved in a tournament on Saturday. Forty to fifty people braved the water on Saturday and an additional ten plunged into Beckwith on Sunday in support of the event.

The Polar Plunge is the primary event of a scholarship fund for seniors at Rye High School in memory of Maggie Drew Peters, class of 2018, who passed away in November 2015.

Health Solutions was at the event Saturday providing support and information regarding suicide prevention and the Rye Fire Protection District was also on hand to provide support with a dive team and helicopter.

The web site built around the event says, “On behalf of Maggie Drew Peters, we - her immediate family: Tim, Karen and Ella Peters, as well as her extended family and friends, are asking your support to establish a scholarship dedicated to helping Rye graduates achieve their future dreams, as we had hoped to help Maggie achieve hers.”

Over $10,000 has already been collected and the family is still hopeful of exceeding last year’s mark of $17,000. If you would still like to contribute you can send contributions to Karen Hopkins PO Box 476, Rye, CO 81069 or drop contributions at the high school or contribute online at our GoFundMe page at the following link -

All money collected goes to student scholarships.

More information can also be found on Maggie's memorial page online -

The Maggie Drew Peters Memorial Scholarship is a Charitable Organization registered to solicit contributions in Colorado as required by the Colorado Solicitation Act. #01830229867
