Atencio Remains Undefeated, Collects Gold at Pueblo South

Michael Atencio started the post- holiday part of the wrestling season the way he ended 2018 by pinning defending state champion Seth McFall of Fowler, and won the gold at the Colt “Bobby Hawk” Classic at Pueblo South last Saturday.

Atencio, who is 16-0 for the season is the top ranked wrestler in 2A at 113 lbs., after a first round bye, A scored a fall in 1:29, a 9-1 major decision and a fall in the finals in only 44 seconds against McFall.

Seventh ranked Zach Ruiz placed fourth in the tournament in the 106 lb. class. Ruiz won a fall in 1:13, lost 4-16, won a sudden victory decision and then lost a fall in the bronze medal match in 1:20 to Martinez of Pueblo South.

Ruiz is 14-5 for the year.
