The 22 single-family home building permits in Pueblo County were below the 30 permits last year. It was the second time in three months that permit activity fell below the prior year’s pace. For the full year permits are up 22% over last year. Prior to the final quarter they had been running up about 33%.

A $2.1 million project to replace “wrong way” signs on the interstate from the New Mexico border to the El Paso County line began on Monday and should be completed sometime this fall. After noticing an increase in wrong way drivers, the Colorado Department of Transportation began an initiative on Monday to install new wrong way signs and replace some existing signs. In addition, a section of U.S. 24 will also be updated.

For the first time since 2014 auto thefts recorded by the Pueblo Police Department saw a significant decrease. There were nearly 200 less vehicles, a 16% decline, stolen in 2018. The record in 2017 hit a high of 1,253 thefts. The low in the last six years was in 2014 when 548 cars were stolen.
