Late last year, the Colorado City Metropolitan District Board of Directors chose then Mayor James Eccher of the city of Walsenburg as the new district manager. When Eccher arrived for work on December 17, 2018, he joined fellow Walsenburg native, Finance Director Yvonne Barron. Technically, Barron was born in Pueblo and raised in Walsenburg. They attended the same high school but took radically different paths during their professional careers.
After high school, Barron attended the University of Southern Colorado (Colorado State University, Pueblo) and Regis University, obtaining an undergraduate degree in Human Resources and a Masters in Business Administration.
Affable and outgoing, Eccher has taken the executive reins of the district. Quiet and shy, Barron has been the finance director of the metro district for some thirteen months, having successfully avoided an interview with the Greenhorn Valley View until about a week ago. “Some people like the spotlight. I’m just the opposite. When the spotlight comes on, I can’t get far enough away,” explained Barron.
